Box Score Pomona, CA — The Tigers traveled to Pomona College on Saturday to play a conference doubleheader against the CMS Stags at Alumni Field. Due to construction on their home field, the Stags played as the home team at Alumni Field.
After a quiet first two innings, the offense kicked in for both teams in the 3rd. The Tigers were able to plate 2 runs when Nicholas Gonzalez singled to left field and Ari Solomon clubbed his 7th home run of the season on a fly ball to center field. The home run sets a new career high for Solomon and ties him with Jonathan Marshall for the team lead.
After CMS answered back in the bottom of the 3rd, Oxy plated two more runs in the 4th inning. With three consecutive singles from Jeffery Cambra, Marshall and Nolan Upchurch, Garrett Palme drew a walk with the bases loaded and Gonzalez was able to score Marshall on a sacrifice fly. The score after 4 innings was 5-4 in favor of the Stags.
The 5th and 6th innings saw the Tigers tie the game and then take the lead. In the 5th inning, Upchurch singled for the second time in the game to left field to score Lou Martineau and tie the game at 5-5 while picking up his 19th RBI of the season. In the top of the 6th, Martineau drove a single to center field to score Gonzalez for Martineau's 17th RBI of the season to give the Tigers a 6-5 lead.
Late offensive rallies from CMS in the 7th and 8th innings gave them the lead and they were able to hang onto it with the Tigers offense threatening in the 8th and 9th innings. CMS took Game 2 by a score of 7-6. Game 3 of the series resumes shortly after, as the Tigers look to take a win from the #22 CMS Stags.
