Box Score Pomona, CA — The Tigers traveled to Pomona College on Saturday to finish their conference doubleheader against the CMS Stags at Alumni Field. Due to construction on their home field, the Stags played as the home team in Game 3.
CMS followed their Game 1 and Game 2 trend and came out swinging, getting themselves out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Despite their early scoring presence, Oxy pitching allowed them only to score 1 run in 3 different innings for the rest of the game. Tiger pitchers Matthew Uytioco, Steven Lock and Wilson Schwegler pitched well in relief and combined for 5.1 innings and allowed only 2 runs on 3 hits given up.
Oxy's offense was steady throughout the game, applying pressure to the Stags but unable to turn any of their chances into runs. In 8 of the 9 innings, the Tigers had a runner reach base safely.
The 9th inning is when the Tigers began to strike. Two walks to start the inning from Garrett Palme and Nicholas Gonzalez immediately put a runner in scoring position for Oxy. Sancho Llamas reached base and then stole 2nd base, advancing to 3rd on an error that also scored Palme to break the Tigers' scoreless streak. Ari Solomon then came up and knocked a single to right field to score Llamas and make it a 6-2 game.
Unfortunately for Oxy, CMS was able to end the 9th inning threat and win the game 6-2. The Tigers return to action on Friday at The Yard at the University of Redlands and then host a doubleheader on Saturday to celebrate their Senior Day.
