Box Score Redlands, CA — The Tigers opened their final SCIAC conference series of the season Friday afternoon at The Yard at the University of Redlands to take on the Bulldogs.
Oxy's offense was able to attack early and with a leadoff double by Ari Solomon, Jeffery Cambra was able to move him over to 3rd by way of a sacrifice bunt. Nolan Upchurch followed up with a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Solomon to score and giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
Redlands' offense was able to put together some early offense but was slowed down by Christopher Stimming. In his longest career outing, Stimming threw 4 innings of relief and allowed 2 earned runs while allowing just 3 hits.
Stimming was able to induce 2 of Oxy's 3 double plays on the day. Oxy's infield continued to show their strong chemistry, just as they have throughout the entire season, with a total of 6 different fielders contributing to the 3 double plays that place the Tigers in a tie for the 2nd-most double plays turned amongst all Division 3 Baseball teams.
In addition to the strong fielding and strong relief, Cambra and Lou Martineau each went 2-2 on the day and were a large factor in Occidental's offense on Friday. Cambra's 2-2 day pushes his batting average over the .300 mark to .306, while Martineau boosts his average to a .328 in what has been a strong debut season for both new Tiger batters.
Redlands defeated Oxy by a score of 12-2 in 7 innings. The Tigers will host the Bulldogs tomorrow for a Saturday doubleheader at Anderson Field in what will be the final home games of the season.
