Three Set Singles Duels to Challenge Colby College

Los Angeles, CA – In a closely contested match, the Occidental men's tennis team faced a tough challenge against Colby College, ultimately falling short with a score of 3-6.  Despite a valiant effort from the Tigers, Colby College was determined to notch a road win.

The doubles proved to be an intense duel for control, where both teams fought tooth and nail for the early advantage.  Oxy displayed resilience and grit, securing victories in two of the three doubles matches.  Two of the doubles matches came down to a superset, with Oxy claiming one of them.  Brett Miller and Dhruv Verma clinched a very close battle over their opponents at the second position with scores of 8-7 (7-2).  On court three, Benjamin Burrow and Masson Hart added to Oxy's tally with a solid 8-4 win.

In singles play, although Oxy had the lead from doubles, they knew they faced an uphill battle against Colby College.  Despite facing deficits after dropping the first set, the Tigers showcased their resilience, with five out of six singles matches going the full three sets.  The final court that didn't go to a third set was still pushed to a superset in the second set.  Hart delivered a standout performance, securing a hard-fought victory with scores of 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3 at the fifth singles position.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday when they host Pomona-Pitzer for what is sure to be an intense match at 5 p.m. at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center.  They'll immediately turn around for a 1:30 p.m. match against UC Santa Cruz on Saturday.
