Claremont, CA – The women's track and field team was on full display at the 2024 Pomona-Pitzer Invite held in Claremont, CA last weekend. Despite facing touch competitions, the Tigers delivered strong performances, setting personal records and demonstrating their skill across various events.
Eliza Hawley led the charge, securing seventh place in the women's 400 meter with a blister time of 56.58, marking a new personal record. Megan Cover exhibited outstanding endurance and speed in the women's 1500 meter run, clinching 10th place with a time of 4:45.63. Cover's time was a six-second improvement from her previous best.
In the 5000 meter run, Rosemary Peters and Jade Weggeman were a dominant pair, claiming 10th and 11th places respectively, with times of 18:56.47 and 18:57.28.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team delivered a commendable performance, securing fourth place with a swift time of 48.74. The relay team consisted of Isabel Yaffe, Francesca Candelieri, Karis Palomino, and Eliza Hawley. Palomino continued her competitive performance in the women's pole vault, taking seventh place with a height of 2.95 meters (9'8").
Amelia Weitz soared to new heights in the women's long jump, securing ninth place with a distance of 4.98 meters (16'4.25"), setting a new personal record in the process. In the triple jump, Emily Dolida finished in the top ten with a leap of 10.09 meters (33'1.25"). In the throws, Gabriella Knutsen exhibited strength and technique in the shot put, securing ninth place with a throw of 11.18 meters (36'8.25").
The women's track and field team continues to push for excellence and it will be exciting to see where they go with the remainder of the season. This weekend the team will be competing in either the Bryan Clay Invite, the Leopard Distance Carnival, or the SCIAC Multi-Dual 3 meet.
