Thousand Oaks, CA – The Occidental men's tennis team had a spectacular start to their weekend as they secured a 6-3 victory over California Lutheran University last night. The match, filled with intense rallies and displays of skill, saw Oxy exhibit unwavering determination and exceptional talent to come out ahead.
The doubles segment of the match was a testament to the Tigers' grit and resilience. Despite facing tough competition, the doubles pairs worked together, clinching two out of three closely contested matches. Particularly noteworthy was the outstanding comeback orchestrated by Benjamin Burrows and Dennis Isak on court three. Trailing 6-2 in the tiebreaker and facing six match points, they rallied with unparalleled determination to secure an 8-7 (13-11) win, providing a crucial boost for the Tigers heading into singles play.
In singles action, the team showcased their individual brilliance, delivering standout performances that propelled Oxy to the team win. Ronald Chen and Ace Andres led the charge with commanding straight-set wins at number one and two singles, respectively. Meanwhile, Burrows delivered a clutch performance at the fifth singles positions, sealing the match with a gritty 7-6, 6-4 triumph, demonstrating his commitment and focus under pressure. Additionally, Brett Miller's hard-fought three-set victory at the number three singles spot further highlighted the depth of Oxy's roster.
