Azusa, CA – The Occidental Tigers track and field teams put on a spirited performance at the 2024 Franson Last Chance meet, hosted by Azusa Pacific on May 9-11.  The men's and the women's teams demonstrated their talent as they aimed to qualify for nationals.

 

Men's Team Highlights:

In the men's 100 meter dash college semifinals, Justin Edwards emerged as the leading sprinter for the Tigers, clocking in at 10.90 seconds to secure 17th place.  Edwards' speed and technique were evident as he raced against a highly competitive field.

The men's 400 meter event saw Shane Kawakami-Williams finishing in the top 20, posting a time of 48.92 seconds.

In the men's 400 hurdles, Harrison Williams led the charge, finishing 12th with a time of 54.87 seconds.  Jonah Magill followed closely, securing 15th place with a time of 55.75.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team, composed of Edwards, Kawakami-Williams, Oliver Yue, and Zachary McGraw, delivered a solid performance.  They finished eighth with a time of 41.40 seconds, showcasing seamless baton exchanges and remarkable synergy.

 

Women's Team Highlights:

On the women's side, Eliza Hawley competed fiercely in the 400 meter race, finishing in 14th with a time of 56.91 seconds.

Ciara Gillen ran a strong 1500 meters to finish in 16th place with a time of 4:34.18.  Gillen's endurance and strategic pacing were key to her commendable finish in the challenging event.

In the women's 5000 meter run, Jenna LeNay clocked in at 17:28.18 to finish in 17th place.

In the field events, Emily Dolida competed in the long jump, achieving a distance of 5.29 meters (17'4.25") to finish 18th.  Gabriella Knutsen delivered a standout performance in the women's shot put, taking ninth place with a throw of 11.68 meters (38'4").  Her technique and power were highlighted by her impressive showing.
