Redlands Final Qualifier

Redlands, CA – The Occidental track and field teams had a small selection of student-athletes compete at the 2024 Redlands Final Qualifier meet, held at Ted Runner Stadium on May 15 and 16.  

 

Women's Team Highlights:

Eliza Hawley was a standout for the Tigers, finishing fifth in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 12.07 seconds.  Hawley continued to impress in the 200 meter dash, securing fourth place with a time of 24.94 seconds.  She was closely followed by Emmamarie Watkins, who finished in ninth with 26.39 seconds.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Brooke Tompkins delivered a strong performance, claiming third place with a time of 1:07.88.  An exciting showing considering she's returning from an injury and it was the first time she'd ever competed in the hurdles at the collegiate level.

Emily Dolida excelled in the long jump, achieving a distance of 5.08 meters on her final attempt to secure third place.  

The women's throwing events saw multiple top-10 finishes.  Gabriella Knutsen led the way with a second-place finish in the shot put, throwing 11.18 meters.  Chelsea Groves followed in fourth place with a throw of 10.70 meters, and Skye Garcia finished in sixth with 10.05 meters.  Knutsen and Groves also performed well in the discus throw, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, with throws of 34.50 and 34.46 meters.  Knutson rounded out her strong showing by placing fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.42 meters.

 

Men's Team Highlights:

On the men's side, Shane Kawakami-Williams and Chris Haliburton both finished in the top 10 in the 100 meter dash.  Kawakami-Williams secured seventh place with a time of 10.58 seconds, while Haliburton finished in 10th with 10.70 seconds.  Kawakami-Williams also placed ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.65 seconds.

Harrison Williams delivered a solid performance in the 110 meter hurdles, taking fifth place with a time of 15.57 seconds.  Jonah Magill continued the push in hurdles with his strong third place finish, securing a time of 54.59 seconds.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Chris Haliburton, Shane Kawakami-Williams, Oliver Yue, and Zachary McGraw, finished in second place behind Pomona-Pitzer.  The team clocked in at 41.54 seconds.
