Myrtle Beach, SC – The Occidental women's track and field team saw two of its standout student-athletes qualify for the prestigious NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held in Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Senior Ciara Gillen and sophomore Eliza Hawley represented the Tigers with distinction, both having had exceptional seasons leading up to the championships.  Gillen, who qualified in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, dominated the SCIAC in the event throughout the season.  Competing on the first day, she faced off against elite competition, including Annika Carlson from Chapman University– the only other SCIAC representative in the event.  Gillen narrowly missed advancing to the finals, finishing 13th with a seven-second personal best time of 10:40.39.  Despite falling short of finals, her performance was a testament to her hard work and improvement.

On the second day of competition, Hawley took to the track in the women's 400 meter dash.  As the sole SCIAC athlete in the event, she delivered a strong performance, clocking in at 56.73 seconds and earning 14th place.  With two more years of eligibility and development ahead of her, Hawley is poised for future success and likely to make additional appearances at nationals not only in the women's 400 meter, but in additional events.
