Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Men's water polo fell to the No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 19-14 on Wednesday night at De Mandel Aquatics Center.
The Tigers started out hot, taking a 2-1 lead early.
Travis Hughes and
Max Stone traded goals in the early minutes.
Lars Schubert tied it up later in the first after Pomona-Pitzer drew ahead, and with time ticking down, Stone fired a shot into the net, off a
Quin Concannon pass, to finish the first at a 4-4 stalemate.
The Sagehens pulled away, however, in the second quarter. The Sagehens opened the frame with a 5-2 run, but the Tigers strung off a
Loron Washburn goal at the 2:49 mark to bring it within two. The next ten minutes were all Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer closed the third quarter, leading 15-9.
Pomona-Pitzer added a pair of goals to open the fourth, putting the game out of reach for the Tigers.
With the loss, Oxy falls to 2-14 on the season and 0-2 in SCIAC play. They return to De Mandel Aquatics Center on Friday, October 3 for the Gary Troyer Tournament. They begin the four-game weekend with Wheaton (Mass.) at 11 a.m.
