LOS ANGELES — Occidental split a doubleheader in the Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday, losing to McKendree 19-7 before defeating Augustana 13-10 in the nightcap.
In the first game of the day, McKendree scored the first four goals before
Joey Gutierrez put Occidental on the board at 4:33 of the first quarter. McKendree followed with five consecutive goals, and
Danny Miller answered for Occidental on a power play at :36 of the second quarter before Armand Le Goff scored for McKendree at :15. In the third quarter,
Atticus Wahab-Holles scored off a
Jack Davis assist at 5:48.
Occidental closed the quarter with three straight goals from Miller at 1:50, :34 and :01, with
Zane Derrod assisting two of them. McKendree opened the fourth quarter with goals at 7:40 and 6:53 before
Nicholas Karamian converted a power play for Occidental at 3:57, and Tonny Simon added the final McKendree goal at :42.
Danny Miller scored four goals on nine shots.
Zane Derrod recorded two assists, one steal and one exclusion drawn. Karamian finished with one goal, two steals and one exclusion drawn. Wahab-Holles added one goal, one exclusion drawn and one sprint win.
In the win over Augustana, Occidental put together four-goal second and fourth quarters and finished with a 30-26 shot advantage.
Augustana opened the scoring on Rhys Lomax's goal at 6:48, but Occidental answered through
Danny Miller at 6:09 before Lomax scored again at 2:10.
Miles McDaniel followed with goals at 0:54 and 0:15 to start a four-goal Occidental stretch that continued in the second quarter with
Daron Alexanians at 6:59 and
Joey Gutierrez at 6:31. After Adam Rashed converted for Augustana at 6:11, Occidental responded with
Atticus Wahab-Holles from
Nicholas Karamian at 3:25 and a Karamian penalty-shot goal at 0:23. Augustana scored four times in the third quarter, while Occidental got goals from McDaniel at 4:24 and
Zane Derrod at 0:59 to stay in front of the scoring exchange. Derrod added another goal at 7:37 in the fourth quarter and Gutierrez scored off
Jake Eulenhoefer's assist at 5:07 before Occidental closed with Miller at 1:37 and
Jack Davis from Eulenhoefer at 0:58; Occidental finished with 13 goals on 30 shots, while Augustana had 10 goals on 26 shots.
McDaniel scored a team-high three goals on four shots and drew an exclusion. Gutierrez finished with two goals and four steals. Eulenhoefer recorded two assists, one steal and a sprint win.
Calvin Anderson made six saves and collected three steals.
The Tigers will play tomorrow morning against Cuesta College at 10AM before the Alumni game at 1pm.
