PREVIEW: Track & Field set for 2026 SCIAC Championships

5/1/2026 10:42:00 AM

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Track and Field gears up for the SCIAC Championships over the weekend, starting Saturday, May 2, running through May 3 at Redlands.

The Tigers are poised to make a leap in the standings from last year's fifth place finishes on each side. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming championships.

THE FIELD

All nine SCIAC schools are geared up and ready for competition. The Tigers placed third in the SCIAC Quad Cup Championship, missing a second-place finish on the men's side by a small margin. Claremont-M-S won on the men's and women's side while Chapman finished second.

Pomona-Pitzer slated at fourth during the Quad Cup, while Redlands is a competitive finisher hovering around fifth – both were teams the Tigers finished beneath a season ago.

The Tigers match up well across all track events, from short, to mid distance sprints, hurdles and long distance.

TOP-10'S

There are 29 Tigers, not counting all relay participants, who hold a top ten spot in the conference in at least one individual event. Student-athletes in first have the events italicized and underlined. These athletes are ones to watch as the Tigers accumulate points throughout the two-day meet.

MEN

Ames is the reigning SCIAC Champion in the long jump, and although he sits outside the top-five in the event heading into the championships, is poised for his best jumps of the season.

Kawakami-Williams and Buellesbach are leading the conference in three events combined. The Tigers are looking to improve from two SCIAC Champions in 2025.

WOMEN

Ogden and Way are leading the pack in the 400 and 800, respectively. Both are a part of the Tigers 4x4 relay that sits just four seconds under Chapman for first in the conference.

Sepulveda and Hrabe are two of the Tigers' best field athletes, both sitting in third in at least one event. Sepulveda is second in the shot put and fourth in hammer while Hrabe is third in the pole vault.
