LOS ANGELES, Calif. –
Shane Kawakami-Williams was named SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year on Friday, May 8.

The junior was consistently the fastest in the conference across the 100 and 200 and propelled the 4x1 and 4x4 relay teams to new heights under his presence.

At the SCIAC Championships, Kawakami-Williams won the 100 with a time of 10.43. Earlier in the day, Kawakami-Williams ran the second leg of a victorious 4x1 relay that came into the conference meet ranked second in the SCIAC.

Looking ahead to national championships qualifications, Kawakami-Williams is 11
th in the nation in the 100 and seventh in the 200. He and the 4x1 relay team are in 29
th, however adjusting the rankings to indicate only one team qualifying per school, the Tigers jump to 22
nd.

Kawakami-Williams and the Tigers have two more times to improve their marks at the APU and Redlands Last Chance meets before the NCAA Championships from May 21-23.
