FULLERTON, Calif. (March 27, 2008) – For
the second time this season the Occidental College women's
tennis team defeated Hope International University. In a match,
rescheduled from March 6, the Tigers were victorious by a 7-2
margin on the courts at Cal State Fullerton.
All of the Tigers showed heart today, battling
from behind to walk away victorious, snapping a seven match losing
streak.
A pair of freshman, Danielle
Siegler and Isabelle Ying, and junior,
Jennifer Wahba each went 2-0 on the day with wins
in both singles and doubled action.
Siegler and Ying combined to defeat Hope 8-1
as the # 3 doubles team adding 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2 individual
victories, respectively. Wahba was joined by Marissa
Cassman for an 8-5 win at the # 1 spot while recording a
7-5, 6-2 victory as the # 1 player.
Senior captain Alayna Santos
recoded a singles win as the # 3 player winning a third set
tie-breaker (3-6, 5-3, 1-0 (6)). Taylor Kaplan
recorded the final Tiger victory on the day at the # 5 spot (6-0,
6-2).
Oxy will be back on the courts Monday, March
31 at 2:30 p.m. when the Tigers travel to Cal State University Los
Angeles for a non-conference match.
