LOS ANGELES,
CALIF. (Mar. 9, 2009)
– Oxy ran into another tough opponent during their spring
break schedule, this time from the east coast in the form
of the Vassar Brewers. A tough start in doubles was to
much to overcome, as the Brewers used that momentum to pull off
some tight wins in singles, handing the Tigers their fourth
straight loss.
After a poor
showing in the doubles dual matches, Oxy tightened up and played
much better in the singles matches. Kris Subbiah lost in back
to back tiebreakers to the number one singles player. While Marissa Cassman opened up
her match with a 6-1 drubbing of the number 3 singles player,
before losing back to back break points in the second set to fall
6-3. Cassman held her
composure and won a close tiebreaker to take the match. The Tigers only win of the
afternoon. Frances Hutton also
played well, falling 5-7, 6-7 (3) in the final match of the
day.
Oxy
(2-7) has no time to rest, as they travel tomorrow to play Westmont
College. First serve
for the Tuesday, March 10th dual match is at
2:00pm.
