THOUSAND OAKS,
CALIF. (April11,
2009) – In a battle for the third spot in the conference, the
Tigers came up short in a clash with Cal Lutheran on the road. The Regals took control
early and never let up in a convincing 7-2 win to lock up the
number three spot in the standings.
Cal Lu opened up
with three straight doubles victories, but had to work in the first
two, as Kris
Subbiah and Jen Wahba hung tough
before falling in a heartbreaking 8-6 loss. Only to be followed by an
equally inspired effort by Marissa Cassman and
Taylor
Kaplan, who fell by the score of 9-7. One break goes a Tiger way and
those matches could easily have ended in favor of Oxy.
Subbiah followed
up her performance in doubles with an inspired effort, dominating
the top singles player from Cal Lu, winning easily 6-1, 6-2. Cassman also broke through
for Oxy, winning 6-3, 6-2 in the number three position. But those would be the only two
wins of the day for the Tigers, as they fell to fourth place in the
standings with the loss today.
Oxy
(8-9, 4-3) will now prepare for the SCIAC Conference Tournament,
which begins Friday, April 17th.
