LOS ANGELES,
Calif. (April 13, 2009) – Oxy rounded out its tough non
conference schedule with a dual match against division two Cal Poly
Pomona. The Tigers
have played some outstanding tennis as of late, but that would not
be enough to knock off the Broncos, who cruised to a seven to two
victory.
The
Broncos cruised in the opening rounds of doubles action, winning
the first two dual matches, but the team of Mike Kuhn and Victor Sowers broke through to hand Cal
Poly Pomona its first loss of the day with an 8-6 win at the number
three position.
The
win at doubles pulled Oxy within one heading into singles
play. That's as
close at the Tigers would get today, as Pomona ripped off four
straight wins to clinch the match. Although Oxy kept battling, with
Stefan
Pastor at the number five position, coming back from an
opening set loss (1-6) to take the match 6-4, 7-6. Showing great heart after taking
a bad loss in the opener.
Next up for Occidental (4-9, 2-4)
will be Cal Lutheran University at 7pm, on Tuesday, April
14th, at the Burbank Tennis Center.
