LOS ANGELES,
Calif. (April 14, 2009) – The Tigers had to quickly bounce
back and take on Cal Lu in their final SCIAC dual match after
having faced a tough Cal Poly Pomona squad less then twenty four
before. Although play
was not completed, the visiting Kingsmen won enough matches to
secure the victory 5-1.
Cal Lu jumped out
early and won all three doubles matches, but had to hold off a
valiant effort by Chris Wan and Reid Fenning, who
pushed the number one singles team from the Kingsmen before losing
9-8.
The
visitors kept the momentum going as they swept through the first
two singles matches, but had work to win the opener of each match
as Mike Kuhn
lost a tight 7-5 set in the first position while Wan fell by the
same score in the opening set of the second match. Fenning picked up the only win
of the day for the Tigers, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Next up for Occidental (4-10, 2-5)
will be a first round match up against this same Cal Lutheran
squad, on Friday, April 17th, at Redlands High
School. Play is
slated to begin at 9am.
