BURBANK, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010) - After a tough loss on Friday
to Pomona Pitzer, the Black and Orange bounced back to knock off
Whittier College 8-1 on Saturday morning, picking up a weekend
split and more importantly a conference victory.
Friday afternoon, the Sagehens overpowered the Tigers, taking
home a 9-0 win. Pomona Pitzer began the season the as the #7
ranked team in the country and the #1 team in the West
Region. Playing to form, the Sagehens cruised to their second
conference victory and have yet to lose a match in 2010.
Saturday morning the Tigers returned home but lost the opening
match in doubles, marking their 10th straight loss over
two days. Instead of panicking, the Tigers bounced back to
win the second match on the strength of Katrina
Gould and Jessica Go's strong play.
Needing the momentum going into singles, the Tigers prevailed in a
tight third match by the score of 9-7. The win by
Rachel Washtien and Isabelle Ying
gave Oxy the lead going into singles and they never looked
back. Reeling off six straight wins without surrendering a
set to cruise to the 8-1 win.
Next up for Oxy (2-3, 1-3) is a nonconference match up with
Chapman University on Thursday, February 25th, at
home. First serve is scheduled for 2pm.
