LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (Feb. 25, 2010) - The Tigers fell in
non conference action today to the Chapman Panthers. Although
the Panthers won by the final score of 7-2, a few bounces in their
favor and Oxy could have walked away with a victory, as each match
was that close.
Chapman cruised through the first two doubles matches, before
Jessica Go and Kisa Ito almost
pulled out a victory in the number three position, losing by the
final score of 9-8 (2).
The close matches continued after that, as Kris
Subbiah fell to Kelley Fox, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Followed
right up by Marissa Cassman narrowly dropping a
straight set decision at the number two position, 5-7, 4-6.
Katrina Gould needed one bounce to go her way, but
unfortunately was not that fortunate, and fell in a heartbreaker
6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Go battled at the number four position and finally broke through
for the Black and Orange, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Frances Hutton followed that up with another
three set win, over the Panthers number five singles player,
6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (5).
Tough losses but compared to Cal Lutheran's match against
Chapman (2-1), in which they were defeated 9-0, the Tigers can walk
off the courts knowing they have improved significantly in just a
few weeks.
The Tigers (2-4, 1-3) return to conference play this Saturday,
February 27th, as they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
for a 9:30am Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference dual match. The Athenas have yet to lose a set in
SCIAC play and are a perfect 4-0 on the year.
