LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 27, 2010) – The Black and Orange
had a tough weekend, falling in non conference action to UC Santa
Cruz and Willamette, but the toughest loss was to Claremont Mudd
Scripps in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference match that was continued from earlier in the
season.
The Banana Slugs started the weekend with a Friday tilt against
the Tigers, cruising to an 8-1 victory, as Oxy could only muster an
overtime win (9-8) in the third doubles match by Frances
Hutton and Rachel Washtien.
Saturday morning brought a double header for the Tigers, as they
faced Willamette at home before completing the SCIAC match with
Claremont Mudd Scripps.
Oxy played well against Willamette, going into singles just down
2-1, as Jessica Go and Katrina
Gould picked up a victory at the second doubles
position. Unfortunately the Tigers surrendered three wins in
the first four singles matches, and fell 6-3 to drop to 3-10
overall.
The SCIAC match brought more of the same, as Oxy was in tied
3-3, but dropped the final three matches to come up short again by
the final score of 6-3.
Oxy (3-11, 1-4) will try to snap their three match skid when
they continue SCIAC play against the University of La Verne.
The will travel to play the Leopards this Friday, April
2nd, with first serve scheduled for 2pm.
