LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 8, 2010) - The Vassar Brewers started
their west coast trip with a visit to Occidental College this
afternoon. Bringing with them a five match win streak that
the Tigers were hoping to snap, but the Brewers were too much for
the Black and Orange, handing the Tigers a 9-0 loss to open their
spring break mini home stand.
Vassar dominated the opening doubles match, but Katrina
Gould and Jessica Go fought hard in the
number two doubles match, trying to even the dual match at
1-1. Unfortunately they fell 8-6, and the Brewers took the
third match in convincing fashion, entering the singles portion of
the dual match up 3-0.
The best match of the day was marked by a series of huge
streaks, as the top two singles players battled it out in the
number one singles match. Kris Subbiah fell
6-2 in the opening set, but stormed back to win 6-1, momentum
switched uniforms once again as the top Vassar singles player
rolled to a 6-0 third set win.
The Brewers swept the final five matches to pick up their sixth
consecutive victory.
The Tigers (2-5, 1-3) have less than 24 hours to regroup, as
they will take the court tomorrow morning at 10am as they face the
University of Texas Tyler.
