ORANGE, Calif. – Stephen Perkins battled back from a 6-1 opening set loss at the #6 singles position to win his match in three sets (1-6, 7-6, 7-5) and clinch back to back wins to open the season for the Tigers as they knocked off Chapman University 5-4.
The Black and Orange fell behind 2-1 after the doubles portion of the dual match, with Perkins and Spencer Choy picking up a hotly contested 9-8 victory at the #2 position.
The Panthers fought to a 4-2 lead halfway through singles play before the Tigers rallied back for the win. Choy won a three setter (6-1, 6-7, 6-2) at the #4 position, followed by Jordan Brown dominating at the #5 spot (6-3, 6-0) before Perkins clinched the victory with his comeback win.
Oxy (2-0) will host the University of Redlands on Saturday, February 19th to open Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. First serve is scheduled for 9:30am at the Burbank Tennis Center.
