Tigers roll to three victories in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – The Black and Orange traveled to Austin, Texas to compete in the three day Austin College tournament.  Oxy cruised to three victories in four matches, picking up wins over Hendrix College (7-2), Austin College (9-0) and Hardin Simmons College (7-2).

On Friday, March 11th, the Tigers opened with a 7-2 win over Hardin Simmons.  Spencer Choy and Stephen Perkins opened the tournament with an 8-6 win in doubles.  Kevin Siebs and Rod Bandeira followed up with an 8-4 win to close out doubles and help the Black and Orange grab a 2-1 lead.   Once singles play rolled around Oxy caught fire, winning five of six to close out the match.  Jeremy Shapiro and Jordan Brown picked up singles victories while Choy, Perkins and Siebs went undefeated on the day.

The Tigers opened day two with a 6-3 loss to Mc Murry College but rebounded with a 7-2 win over Hendrix College.  Bandeira and Siebs moved to 3-0 in doubles play during the match, with David Cotton and Pastor also notching a victory during the dual match doubles competition.  Once again the Tigers caught fire, winning five of six again, with Siebs moving to 3-0 with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles win.

On the final day of the tournament, Oxy rolled to an impressive 9-0 win over host Austin College.  Siebs stayed perfect picking up wins in doubles and singles. Oxy only lost a combined 12 games during the match, pitching four shutouts.

Oxy (4-7) returns to action Wednesday, March 16th, when then host Amherst College.
