AUSTIN, Texas – The Black and Orange picked up two wins at
the Austin College tournament. The Tigers flew to Texas for
the three day event and picked up decisive victories over Hendrix
College and McMurry College.
Oxy opened the tournament on Friday, March 11th,
falling to Hardin Simmons 8-1. Katrina Gould
recorded the lone Tiger victory, holding on for a three set win at
the number three singles position.
But on day two the Black and Orange broke through for their
first two victories of the season. In the Saturday morning
opener Oxy held off a tough McMurry squad for a 6-3 victory.
Kris Subbiah and Jessica Go
started things off in doubles, cruising to an 8-4 victory before
Isabelle Ying and Julie Housman
staked the Tigers to a 2-1 lead with another 8-4 win at the number
three doubles position. Subbiah, Go and Housman each added
another win in the singles portion of the dual match, with Gould
rolling to a straight sets singles victory to avenge her doubles
loss.
Oxy closed day two with an impressive 7-2 win over Hendrix
College. The Tigers rolled through doubles play, leading 3-0
after Subbiah / Go, Ying / Housman and Gould / Emily Wilde all
notched victories. Gould moved to 3-0 in the tournament,
winning 6-2, 6-1 in singles action to help secure the win.
On the final day of the tournament, the Tigers two match win
streak and Gould's undefeated run came to an end with a 6-3
loss to Austin College. Housman went 2-0 on the day, teaming
with Ying in doubles for a win, while Subbiah picked up a three set
win to move to 3-1 at the number one singles position during the
Texas competition.
Oxy (2-8) returns to action Saturday, March 19th,
when then travel to Chapman University. First serve is at
11:00am.
