LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Black and Orange picked up their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory with a solid 5-4 win over Caltech.
The Tigers opened the dual match with two wins in doubles play. Kris Subbiah and Rachel Washtien held off the number one duo for an 8-5 win while Isabelle Ying and Julie Housman cruised to an 8-1 victory at the number three position. The 2-1 advantage would turn out be the difference in the match.
Jessica Go had a barnburner at the number two singles spot, losing the opening set in a tiebreaker before storming back to win 6-2 in the second and gutting out the deciding set 7-5. But both teams went back and forth during singles, as the Beavers and Tigers split the six matches, but it was Oxy that held on for a 5-4 win.
Oxy (4-11, 1-2) host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, April 8th, with first serve scheduled for 2pm.
