Dancu wins four of five during six-match stretch

LOS ANGELES — Josh Dancu (Maples, Fla.) continued to prove himself as a top player, winning four of his last five matches, improving to 7-2 at the No. 1 spot this season.

But the Occidental College men's tennis team dropped four matches in a row to three regionally-ranked teams and one national power on the backend of a six-match, six-day stretch lasting from March 19-24.

The Tigers lost to Tufts, Trinity (Conn.), No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and DePauw. They opened the strenuous period of their schedule with back-to-back wins over Hardon-Simmons (Tx.) and Carleton College (Minn.).

The only match Dancu lost during the period was to Warren Wood of CMS, the No. 21-ranked player in the West.

Oxy nearly pulled of an upset over Trinity (Conn.), the No. 7-ranked team in the Northeast, winning at No. 1-3 singles and No. 1 doubles, but lost the remaining five matches.

Stephen Perkins (Seattle, Wash.) and Jordan Brown (San Diego) both went 4-2 during the stretch.

Oxy is back in action facing Pacific Lutheran today at 4 p.m. at Scholl Canyon.
