LOS ANGELES — Samantha Farrell and Keilani Bonis-Ericksen each won their singles matches and teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles, leading the Occidental women's tennis team to a 6-3 win over Caltech in the SCIAC Championship Play-In Game on Tuesday.
Under first-year head coach Will Morris, Oxy earns its first SCIAC win since beating La Verne in May, 2012.
"We played with a quiet confidence," Morris said. "We were solid throughout the line up and our players hard work in practice was rewarded."
Oxy advances to play host and top-seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday at 10 a.m.
Farrell, a freshman from Los Angeles, took down Sophia Chen in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot.
Keilani Bonis-Ericksen, a junior from Waimanalo, Hawaii, beat Vinci Chen at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Farrell and Bonis-Ericksen beat Chen and Emily Wang at No. 1 doubles, 8-2.
Sara Charney also had a pair of wins for the Tigers, beating Rachel Morton at No. 5 singles, and combining with Lauren Hutkin for a win at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Isabella Korfmann rounded out Oxy's wins with a victory over Katie Antilla at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
