Oxy Wins 10th in a Row, Sweeps Whittier

Box Score

WHITTIER — The Occidental baseball team is red hot and continues to win with late-inning rallies.

Jack Brancheau went 4 for 5 with four RBIs, including two during a five-run ninth-inning rally, leading the Tigers to a 10-7 comeback win at Whittier for its third consecutive SCIAC sweep and 10th win in a row on Sunday.

It is win No. 101 for Oxy head coach Luke Wetmore and associate head coach Jesse Rodgers in their fifth season with the Tigers.

From the Coach: "Jack gave us clutch hitting and Josh Cohen gave us a chance when he took the ball in relief," Wetmore said. "This team is never out of it. They always believe they can and will come back."

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 12-4 overall and are in first place in the SCIAC at 10-2.

Whittier falls to 5-12 and 2-7.

Oxy has won six games this season with comebacks starting in the fifth inning or later, with four of those comebacks coming in SCIAC competition.

Brancheau drove in Oxy's first run in the third, had another RBI-single during a four-run seventh that evened the game at 5-5 and then after Whittier jumped ahead 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of runs, he drove in two more during a five-run ninth that put Oxy up 10-7.

DeRaad is leading the SCIAC with five home runs and 21 RBIs. The junior is hitting .444, with a .527 on base percentage and a .867 slugging percentage.
