Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES — The Occidental softball team played a doubleheader against Puget Sound at Bell Field on Saturday.
Oxy scored three runs in the fifth inning and threatened a comeback in Game 1 before falling 9-4.
Game 2 was called in the sixth inning tied at 7-7 due to darkness. Oxy caught up with four runs in the third inning and added one more important run to tie the score at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth.
Oxy's Nyla Gatison, a sophomore outfielder who hit a team-best .391 in her rookie season, had a solid day, going 3 for 5 with three runs scored and a stolen base. In four games played she's already off to a hot start, hitting .417 with six stolen bases and a .500 on base percentage.
Olivia Thayer was good in the circle for Oxy in Game 1, throwing three scoreless innings in relief.
Madison Romero was 2 for 3 with a run scored in Game 1. Mackensie Priley went 1 for 1 with two runs, an RBI and two walks in Game 2.
Season Impact: Oxy's record goes to 1-2-1 on the season.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action next Saturday with a doubleheader against George Fox beginning at noon.
