At home on Monday, the men played another non-conference duel to kick off their regular season, taking on Colby College. Although ultimately falling to the Mules, Oxy took home some strong doubles wins as well as securing the top singles match.
At #1 Doubles, Matt O'Connor and Ridley Potter remained steady in their pro-set, and were able to withstand the pressure of the tiebreaker to overcome the Colby pairing. It was meaningful win for Potter, a first-year, given that it was his first appearance at #1 Doubles.
At #2 Doubles, Seth Lipe and Brett Miller turned up the heat early. It earned them a solid 8-5 win against the Mules.
Even though most of the singles matches did not go their way, the Tigers battled back in many of their second sets. Both Sam Coan at #3 singles and Seth Lipe at #5 knocked off five games in their second sets. Brett Miller also played many competitive points at the #6 spot.
At the #1 singles spot, Matt O'Connor fought through a three-set match to get another win under his belt. He secured the first set 6-3, but then Colby's #1 stepped up and took a 6-4 set. O'Connor focused in to take the third, and final, set 6-3 for the Tigers.
