Saturday Oxy faced off against the Colby College Mules. It was a tough duel, with three of the Tiger women not able to attend due to illness, but the team fought for each match and were especially close to taking the win in doubles play.
At the #1 Doubles spot, Alexis Matabuena and Dana Edson played competitive tennis. With Edson's strong serve and Matabuena's crafty net play it appeared likely the match would swing in their favor, but the Tigers barely lost 6-8. At #2 doubles, Xavi Campbell and Mathilde Depery also played a solid match, knocking 5 games off of the Mules.
At #3 Doubles, Katie Wolber and Emma Silber played an incredible match which ended in a narrow 9-7 tiebreak win for the Mules.
While singles proved to be tough with an additional player out due to injury, the Tiger spirit remained strong. Some highlights were Emma Silber's stubborn and consistent play, earning her 4 games in her second set. It was her first appearance at #3 singles.
At #5 singles, Katie Wolber also fought hard. Her match dragged out over 2 and a half hours and she had many games that went to several deuces. While her opponent was able to execute in the final moments, Wolber was proud with the effort she gave.
