Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental Men's Tennis Team started their season off with a bang on Sunday beating Lewis and Clark College and Bakersfield College in a home doubleheader. The Tigers defeated Lewis and Clark 9-0 to start out the day and followed it up with a 7-2 victory over Bakersfield.

In the doubles portion against visiting Lewis and Clark, Oxy picked up an 8-4 win at number two doubles from first-years Ronald Chen and Ace Andres and an 8-5 win at number three doubles from first-year Isaac Herrenkohl and sophomore Ridley Potter. At number one doubles, seniors Matt O'Connor and Seth Lipe secured the Tiger doubles sweep in dramatic fashion saving three match points to knock off the Pioneers team of Kristian Peev and Landon Cronin 8-7(2). 

Oxy continued their momentum into singles where they didn't drop a set in route to the 9-0 victory. Sophomore Dennis Isak picked up a 7-6(5),6-2 win at number six singles for the Tigers.

In the afternoon match against Bakersfield College, Oxy jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles with wins coming from senior Zach Haas and sophomore Brett Miller at number one doubles and first-years Mason Hart and Quentin Kemna at number two doubles.

Oxy took five of the six singles matches against Bakersfield highlighted by senior Sam Coan pulling out a 6-0,3-6,6-2 win at number one singles over Alex Lauinger. First-year Mason Hart won 6-4,6-2 at number three singles, sophomore Michael Abagyan won 6-2,6-0 at number four singles, first-year Quentin Kemna won 6-2,6-2 at number five singles and sophomore Chris Swanson won 6-0,6-2 at number six singles to round out the 7-2 Oxy win.

Oxy next plays this Friday February 17^th at home versus Division II Concordia University (Irvine) at 3:00pm.
