Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental Women's Tennis team played a close and competitive match on Sunday against Linfield University. With cold and rainy conditions, the Tigers battled to keep the match going until the very end, falling just short to Wildcats 4-5.
Seniors Sarah Fleming and Andei Fukushige came out hot to get things going for the Tigers in their doubles match, winning 8-4 in the number one doubles spot. Juniors Alexis Matabuena and Mathilde Depery kept the match tight in their number 2 doubles match, falling just short to Lindfield 5-8.
In the singles portion of the match, the Tigers went 3-3 with really close sets for all 6 matches. Senior Andei Fukishige kept her winning streak going after the doubles portion of the match, dominating the one singles match to win 6-1, 6-0 to clinch another point for the team. Sophomore Julia Chun (#4 singles) played a tight three-set match, and ultimately came out on top winning 7-5, 6-7(1), 6-4. Junior Mathilde Depery had another close, three-setter that she won with a commanding third set, going 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to give the Tigers another point.
The Tigers will host their next match against Vassar College on Tuesday March 7th, at 4pm.
