Los Angeles, CA – Occidental's Men's Tennis team battled in a long match against a competitive Pomona-Pitzer team and held their own. Both teams are ranked nationally, Pomona-Pitzer at 9 and Oxy at 36, and this proved to be a competitive match for both teams.
First-Year duo Ronald Chen and Ace Andres put the first points on the board for the Tigers, winning their match in the number 2 doubles 8-6. Heading into the singles portion of the match, Senior Matthew O'Connor dominated his match in the number 1 singles spot, winning 7-5,6-4 to clinch another point for the Tigers. Sophomore Michael Abagyan had an exciting win in his number 5 singles match, coming back in the second set to rack up another point for the Tigers, winning 3-6,6-4,6-3. This brought the match to 3-4 overall with two matches remaining. The final two matches were both in the third set to give the Tigers a look at getting the final two points, and they ultimately lost 6-2 in that third set at both the 3 and 6 singles matches. The Tigers went 3-6 against the Sagehens.
The Tigers will host again on Sunday, March 5th at 11:00 am against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institution.
