Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental Women's Tennis team put up a strong effort on Tuesday afternoon, but eventually came up short falling 6-3 to the 30th ranked Vassar Brewers. It was a big day for Tiger seniors Andei Fukushige and Sarah Fleming who picked up wins in both their singles and doubles matches. Fukushige and Fleming got the Tigers started with an 8-2 win at number one doubles, but the Brewers proved to be too tough at number two and three doubles and took a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of the match.
In singles, Fukushige won 6-4,6-1 at number one singles and Fleming topped her opponent at number two singles 6-2,7-5. The Tigers battled hard at positions three through six but were unable to convert any of the opportunities into wins. Tiger sophomore Julia Chun took her match at number four singles the full three sets before losing 6-3,5-7,6-2.
The Tigers next play in Orlando, FL on Sunday March 12th against the College of St. Scholastica.
