Whittier, CA – Half of the Occidental track and field team traveled all the way to Whittier, CA to compete at the Whittier Twilight. Although the team only consisted of short sprinters, 5K runners and a few throwers, the Tigers continued to show up for themselves and their teammates.
In the 100m dash, Jack Spencer won his heat with a time of 11.28, which placed him in the top 10 overall. Aidan Saeed earned himself a new PR in the 100m (11.93). Harrison Williams won his heat, setting a new PR in the 200m (24.00). Additionally, Tye Hernandez was the fastest Oxy finisher in the 200m in 6th place overall and with a new PR (23.02). Chris Haliburton and Ethan Fong also placed high in eighth (23.01) and tenth (23.19), respectively, in the 200m. Oscar Hernandez set new PRs in the shot put (31'6.75") and the discus throw (93'2"). Matthew Avery improved his mark in the pole vault to 11'8", which was just over two feet from his previous best.
Julianne Yotov and Meimei Bayman's new PRs in the 5000m earned them first (19:38.11) and second (20:09.30) overall, respectively. Yotov shaved off 13 seconds from her previous time. Chelsea Groves and Skye Garcia decided they would both double PR last night. In shot put, the duo went 5th (Groves, 30'8.25") and 7th (Garcia, 29'0.5"). Groves and Garcia continued their success in discus, throwing 88'9" and 55', respectively. Groves picked up 12 feet in the discus from a week ago at the SCIAC Multi-Dual 2.
The other half of the Tiger family will be racing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday, April 8.
